Railyard Renewal Project Land Development Update

The City of Regina is pleased to announce that the next stage of the approved land development strategy for the Regina Revitalization Initiative Railyard Renewal Project will be progressing with the award of the urban planning and design, and engineering consulting services contracts.

A land development strategy for the Railyard Renewal Project was approved by City Council earlier this year and is supported by both the Downtown and Warehouse Business Improvement Districts. The two consulting contracts will begin the master planning process, which is the next step towards implementing the strategy.

Following an open procurement process, Urban Strategies Inc. and WSP Group were selected to provide urban planning and design, and engineering consulting services for the Regina Revitalization Initiative, Railyard Renewal Project.

Urban Strategies Inc. (Toronto, ON) in collaboration with Urbanics Consultants Ltd. (Vancouver, BC) and P3A Architecture (Regina, SK) was selected to provide urban planning and design consulting services. Urban Strategies is an urban planning, design and development consulting practice with worldwide experience in the master planning of complex community scale projects.

WSP Group (Montreal, QC) in collaboration with Ground Engineering Consultants Ltd. (Regina, SK) was selected to provide engineering consulting services.

WSP Group is a leading international firm that provides engineering services that transform the built environment and restore the natural environment. WSP Regina provides significant local municipal infrastructure expertise.

In total, 14 proposals were submitted in response to the urban planning and design competition and seven proposals were submitted in response to the engineering competition.

A final report is anticipated to be completed in approximately 12 months. The planning process will include a number of ways that stakeholders and the public will be invited to participate. More information on how to get involved will be made available this fall.

“We are pleased with the high-quality proposals submitted by many of North America’s leading consulting firms for both the urban planning and design, and engineering competitions,” said Kelly Scherr, Director of Major Projects. “The high level of interest and quality of proposals is indicative of the unique opportunity the City of Regina has with the Railyard Renewal Project and we look forward to progressing work with Urban Strategies Inc. and WSP Group immediately.”

The Railyard Renewal Project is the second phase of the Regina Revitalization Initiative, which also includes the Stadium Project and Taylor Field Neighbourhood.
